Dear partners, supporters, and friends of AFFIRM,

We know that 2020 has been challenging for so many. As we reflect upon the past year, we, as a team, find ourselves focusing on the most important things in life - our children, our families, our health, and our communities. This year has also magnified the importance of our work here at AFFIRM, as the coronavirus pandemic heightened the crisis of firearm injury in our country. As frontline physicians, we see the toll that both of these health crises take on our patients. Out of our scrubs, we see the impact on our friends, our neighbors, and most importantly - our children. 

We recently hosted a Reframe event in Washington, D.C. that focused on youth violence in our nation's capital. We've seen a surge in violence among your youth, not just in D.C., but in cities across the United States this year. We know that our work is critical, and focusing on our youth is of the utmost importance to our team. We're "reframing" conversations that are circular and unproductive into ones of hope and agency. We're continuing to "rethink" the issue through innovative research - while working relentlessly to "resolve" the firearm injury epidemic in the United States.

These three words have guided us through this year and will carry us into the next. As we close 2020, we hope that you'll help us make our communities safer for generations to come.
