Empowering Clinicians to Prevent Firearm Injury and Mortality in Springfield, Missouri

AFFIRM at the Aspen Institute is collaborating with the Missouri Foundation for Health (MFH) to lead a 15-month public health project that will develop a firearm injury prevention curriculum that is tailored to individual groups of healthcare providers and is specifically designed for the Springfield, Missouri community.

The ABIM Foundation’s 2020 Forum sought to increase awareness of the relationship between trust and health equity - and continued to meet over the past year to discuss a variety of trust-building ideas and ways to implement them. Following this, AFFIRM at the Aspen Institute has been awarded a grant to support our work on Reframe.
Reframing Firearm Injury Prevention Through Bystander Interventions for Youth Shooting Sports Participants
Historic Funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
This long-awaited funding comes after a twenty four-year drought on federally funded research into the causes of firearm injury and prevention methods. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has ended a twenty-four-year drought on federally funded research into firearm injury prevention due largely to AFFIRM at the Aspen Institute’s advocacy efforts. Dr. Megan Ranney will lead the three-year, $1.9 million project.
